Illustration for school of a Japanese folktale: Jorogumo

[link]

The lovely spider lady seduces travelers into her home (her spider body is carefully hidden behind screens or other objects), gets them drunk while playing her lute for them, then eats them :)

This looks insane! :wow: Japanese aesthetics NAILED! I was just thinking that your style would be amazing for illustrating Edogawa Rampo stories, btw!

Thanks very much!!! I hadn't heard of that guy until I looked him up, but then I recalled I tried an anthology movie version of some of his works, so he was familiar afterall. I love Asian horror and creepy stuff :)

Yes and I have an original character named Kumo-gata-rui dōbutsu, who's a little different from other jorogumos. For she was dishone by her family for being picky about how she ate(mostly people who would hurt children, bullies, and anyone who tried to hurt one of her friends.) and she very protective of children and would even act as a seraget mother to them.

Yup. She reacts to people hurting me by turning into a sentry rail gun & shooting the offender in the legs. Having a heads-up display in her eyeballs as well as a built-in hyperspace arsenal helps in that regard. She also wields dual Gatling guns. & she's 2.1082 meters tall in human form (that's 6 feet, 11 inches in American units)-female jorogumos tend to look afflicted with gigantism when they disguise themselves as a member of a species for which males being larger than females is the norm. Male jorogumos tend to look afflicted with dwarfism under the same circumstances.
