Gouache still life by e-c-h Gouache still life by e-c-h
This second to last week we covered gouache in media techniques class, so for the final we had to do a still life using it. The fruits are a clementine and apple.

Lovely texture and reprensation of reflection on the apple! You used several different types of strokes to give each subject its appearance. Nice :)

I love colour on the apple and the dry brush on the plate. Some places definitely look like chalk! I've never used gouache so I don't know how it feels to paint with it, but good job anyway :D

Gouache is so touchy! For me, it never seems to dry so i end up messing my layers when I go over them. How do you go about preventing that? ^^;;;

hrmm eh. It's my first time working with it.. I don't have that much experience. One thing I can suggest though is not to be a afraid to try using a paper towel to apply it rather than a brush. That I found worked well, esp for getting the stippled appearance on the orange. Also dabbing and patting it on works better than repeated brush strokes pushing the pigment around ;) Yes the thing about gouache is that it does not chemically change when it dries, so as long as you wet it, it will always move around. hope that helps some XD but really I don't know too much yet.

I just LOVE the orange, the texture is brilliant and the random strokes on the apple, genius. It's a very new feel to a classic form.
